OUR LEADERSHIP

David Harness, Jr. — Senior Pastor

Pastor David was born again as a young boy after being taught in Sunday School about the crucifixion of Jesus. Realizing with much conviction that the reason Jesus died on the cross was to pay the penalty for his sins, David trusted Jesus to save him.

David grew up as the oldest son of the founding pastor of Victory Baptist Church, David Harness, Sr.  When he was 17 years old, God used a Bible message from Ezekiel 22:30 and Isaiah 6:8 to show David that He wanted him to be a preacher. That night he surrendered his life to serve God. Pastor David enjoys teaching and preaching the truth of God’s Word, and has a strong desire that everyone at Victory Baptist would grow in their knowledge of God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ and learn to be an obedient hearer of the Word of God.

In 2007, David married Trista, the girl he secretly admired for several years before God made it clear to him and his parents that she was God’s will for his life. They have five children—David III, Andrew, Daniel, Emma Jane, and Micah. Pastor David and Trista desire that each of their children grow to love and serve God.

Pastor David enjoys cooking (and eating) good food, roasting (and drinking) coffee, raising farm animals, and doing just about any outdoor activity — gardening, hunting, fishing, and snowboarding, just to name a few.

Trevor Stephens — Associate Pastor

Pastor Trevor served as a deacon of Victory Baptist Church for six years prior to becoming Associate Pastor in 2017. He enjoys preaching the Word and has a desire for Christians to understand and embrace the power of God in their lives. A verse that is dear to Trevor is Ephesians 6:10 which says “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

Trevor was born again in Cornwall, Ontario after being invited to evangelistic meetings at the age of 14. He was baptized shortly afterward and eventually went to Bible College in Saskatchewan for two years. After moving to Sherwood Park, Trevor and his wife Anne began attending Victory Baptist Church in 2006 with their daughter Leah.  Trevor and Anne now have six children—Leah, Jack, Luke, Levi, Noah, and Lily—that they seek to bring up ”in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4b). It is the goal of the Stephens family to bring glory to God by serving at Victory Baptist Church.

Growing up on a farm in Ontario and living outside the city in Alberta, Trevor enjoys being outside — especially if it involves raising animals. Trevor also oversees a construction company that specializes in building exteriors and new home construction.

David Harness Sr. — Pastor Emeritus

David Harness Sr., served as the pastor of Victory Baptist Church from its inception in May 1980 until his resignation September 2017.  He continues to serve in many areas of the church.

Church planting is one of David’s passions, and under his leadership Victory Baptist Church helped start several other churches.  David is a board member of Baptist Church Planting Ministry. He is also passionate about preaching and teaching the Word of God and is gifted at taking a passage of Scripture, explaining what it means, and then showing how to apply each truth to daily life.

David was raised in a Christian family, but at eight years of age he realized he must personally trust Christ as his Saviour. God has blessed his wife, Cathy, and him with 12 children and 24 grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys fixing and building things in addition to being outdoors.
